Mahj with Me

My love of Mahjong started long before I ever held a tile. Growing up in New York, I watched my grandmother — my Nanny — play weekly games, and as a little girl I used those beautiful tiles to build houses and little cities on the floor beside her. The game was always present, always something I associated with warmth and family.

When I was 30, I finally learned to play. Sadly, my Nanny had passed away just before that time, and I never got to sit across the table from her as a fellow player — something I'll always hold close to my heart.

What I discovered when I learned the game was something I didn't expect: Mahjong is a community. Over the years, I moved cross-country multiple times, and every single time, Mahjong helped me find my people. A new city, a new group of women, a new set of friendships built around tiles and laughter.

When I settled in the LA I decided I didn't just want to find a community — I wanted to build communities within local organizations. I’ve been introducing the game to players at synagogues, churches, women's groups, and beyond. Watching new players fall in love with the game — and with each other — is one of my greatest joys.

What You'll Learn

We start from the very beginning — the tiles, the rules, the flow of the game — and build from there at whatever pace works for you. Whether you want to play with friends, join a group, or finally understand what everyone's been talking about, I'll get you there. Lessons are available for individuals and small groups.

Who This Is For

Absolute beginners are more than welcome. Mahjong is a wonderful game for adults of all ages — social, mentally engaging, and genuinely fun.
